Another problem that occurred this afternoon - I joined a Windows 2000 PC to a domain with active directory but the group policy settings did not apply themselves. This was fixed by checking through the services running on the PC and it turned out that half of the required services had been disabled - including the Remote Registry service. Finally I discovered that ordinary users cannot create their own folder in the user area without the appropriate permissions being set - but I don't really want to give all users permission to create folders in the user area. I will probably just create the accounts when I set up the users unless I find a better way before that time comes.
